Former Cement Factory Turned Residence

When I was younger, I always dreamed of buying an old warehouse/factory space and refurbishing and completely modernizing the interior. I think I like the idea of misdirection: having this space that looked old and rundown from the outside, but when you opened the door, it was amazing inside.

I still haven’t made that particular dream come true (though I’m not crossing it off the list), but architect Ricardo Bofill achieved the goal in spades by purchasing and renovating this cement factory in Barcelona, Spain:

The project was completed in 1975, but just recently photos from the reno have been getting some press from the blog world. And the results of his two year project are incredible:

Yes, I think this is exactly what I’d do if I had my own industrial space.
